Celebrate Recovery - a Christ-centred programme for everyone

 Everyone?

 Everyone will at some time:

  • develop a behaviour pattern which negatively affects their relationship with others or the way they think and feel about themselves -  OR
  • be hurt by something done to them or said about them, affecting their self-confidence or feelings of self-worth  -  OR
  • have a hang-up about something or someone including themselves.
These hurts, habits or hang-ups may seriously affect quality of life and its enjoyment and fulfilment.

Masks
One way people cope with their problems is to wear a mask and to deny that anything is the matter.  Every time the person wears his or her mask it becomes harder to admit there is a problem.

Why?

We are mostly conditioned to pretend that we can always cope with our problems.  Everyone has problems and everyone needs support, therapy or a programme to help them cope with the problems.

What is Celebrate Recovery?

It is a Christ-centred programme that is designed to help people take steps out of their problems and to “recover” life as God intended.  The goal is to help each person find a freedom and peace that Jesus promised for everyone.

What is involved?

People meet in a safe and confidential setting and work through a 12-step recovery programme.  The programme uses 8 principles to help people develop an awareness and understanding of who Jesus Christ is and then to deepen a relationship with him. There is a series of meaningful and challenging teachings and questions.  Each person works through each step using weekly sheets or a workbook but there is freedom to go at their own pace and do the work in their own time.

After the teaching, in single sex groups, questions from the work sheet or workbooks are discussed to look at how it affects you personally.  These groups develop a supportive and caring environment which allows individuals to open up and to make changes through developing with Jesus and each other new ways to live and to enjoy finding out who they really are.

Realise that I’m not God. I admit I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and that my life is unmanageable.

1

We admitted we were powerless over our addictions and compulsive
behaviours, that our
lives had become unmanageable.

Evaluate all my relationships. Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for any harm I’ve done to others, except when to do so would harm them or others.

8

We made a list of all those persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.

16

Amends

9

We made direct amends to such people whenever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

7

Reserve a daily time with God for self examination, Bible reading and prayer in order to know God and His will for my life and gain the power to follow His will.

We continue to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.

We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us, and power to carry that out.
